Lotus has always been one of the leading manufacturers of high end sports cars. The saga continues with their release of the Lotus Elise. The Lotus Elise is the brain child of Max David a London, England native with Colin Chapman being the founder of Lotus. The dream was to create a car that is lightweight and superior performance. The dream was achieved with the introduction of the Lotus Elise.
The Lotus Elise has a fiberglass hand finished body with an aluminum chassis. This gives the Elise a strong, firm platform to handle the suspension. The Elise is named after the granddaughter of Romano Artioli the Chairman of Lotus during the Launch of the car.
Some of the features is a modest engine which provides the lightweight structure while adding superior performance. The Lotus Elise is especially designed to give high performance while still being a very desirable vehicle. When Lotus first launched their new models they received a great deal of attention because of the eye appealing design and low body weight.
The first Lotus Elise was released in September 1995. Lotus gained so much attention from that launch that they released a second model. Now Lotus has Series 1 and Series 2 of the Elise. Shortly after the release of the Series 1 and achieving outstanding success, Lotus released Series 2 which had an even lighter body weight of 1488 lbs. Following was the launch of another model which was the Lotus Elise 111S which quickly proved to be the faster of all the other models. The main feature of this model was the engine which was known as the Variable Valve Control or VVC engine. The development was patterned after the Rover K series. The seats of all the new models also have extra padding to make this beauty as comfortable as it is appealing.
